Oprah Winfrey rides my kids’ bus

Yes, Oprah Winfrey rides my kids’ bus.  My 8-year-old son, Benji, informed us a few weeks ago that Oprah Winfrey rides his bus.  Turns out Oprah is a fifth grade BOY!    This little darling “role model”  decided to mess with my son.  My son does not know the  Oprah that we all know because we do not watch TV in our home.  So my son does not know he is being messed with.  In fact, “Oprah” has given my son the dubius task of introducing him to other kids on the bus.  I think Benji has come to realize that Mom and Dad are telling him the truth and he has since found out that Oprah’s real name is David.

One day when Benji had stayed home because he was sick, Oprah/David was  looking out the window for him at our stop.  Seems as if he was genuinely concerned for his new friend.  Maybe he’s a nice kid after all.

Electrasol for 35¢

Electrasol
If you have the $2.50/1 Electrasol coupon which came out in the 7/12 SmartSource insert, you can get Electrasol for 35¢.  If you’re heading to Wal-Mart any time soon, you might check there first. Living So Abundantly reported that her Wal-Mart had the Electrasol priced at $2.85 which would make these only $0.35 after the coupon. Also, be sure to stop by her blog to see what she got for $0.58 at Wal-Mart here.

Yes! We did it! We all dressed like cows for Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-a.  And Chick-fil-a gave us free food for our efforts!   Even though my youngest was actually a dalmation, but hey, spots are spots, right?

I wanted to include some witty remarks in this post, but I’m just too tired.  So instead here is a direct quote from my friend Tony that he posted on facebook:  ”That’s a very moooooving idea. I think you were “spot” on with this one. If you ate icecream would that be considered a “cow-lick”? Okay… I’m gonna stop milking this one.”

There, I feel much better about this post.  Thanks, Tony.

Kool-Aid Stand and Summer Challenge

kool-aid

So my son Benji’s 1st grade teacher, Miss Cohron, issued a challenge to her students for the summer. She gave each one a one dollar bill and challenged them to make it grow over the summer.   So I looked for a coupon deal that could help him in this venture.  One dollar. How to spend it wisely.  It just so happened that a Kool-aid and sugar coupon came out soon after summer started, imagine the timing.   The coupon was for $2.00 off sugar when you buy 10 packs of Kool-aid.  I found a Kool-aid printable coupon for 50¢ off 10 packs.  My Krogers doubles coupons up to 50¢ in face value so it would take $1.00 off of a 10 pack purchase.  Kool-aid was on sale at Krogers 10 packs for $1.00.  Dixie crystals (4 pound bag) was on sale for $2.09.  So we have Kool-aid (free), 4 pounds of sugar (.09)  and we found a 51-pack of styrofoam cups for $1.09, our biggest expense!  His receipt shows a total of $1.30, so I loaned him 30¢ which he will pay me back.  A savings of 79%!

We hastily set up a Kool-aid stand today just when the Peidmont lawn service guys were taking their lunch break under some shady trees.  We sold 4 cups to them.  Then the one passerby we had bought 2 cups.  (We live in a cul-de-sac in the back of our subdivision – not a lot of traffic).  But he has paid me back the 30¢, made a slight profit and he still has 9 packs of Kool-aid and most of that 4 pound bag of sugar…………. let’s see how much more  we can make that dollar grow……………  we’re planning a yard sale so we can set up another stand then. Stay tuned.

i have big pupils!

Ok, that is not a commentary on any of my students – past, present or future. I had my eyes checked and dilated today! Wow, I don’t know that I’ve had that done since I was a child.   I really haven’t had any problems, except when I passed 40 and had trouble reading the fine print.  Especially on kid’s medicine bottles.  Since that started around 6 or 7 years ago, ahem,  I’ve been using reading glasses, or cheaters as some have called them.  I definitely need them all the time for reading now.  But my eye test today showed that I am farsighted and not 20/20 anymore. But he said 20/30 is not so bad, and I must agree, quickly approaching 50 years of age.   The eye doc said I can get by with readers for now, unless I want to shell out about $220 + frames  for progressive lenses – no-line BIFOCALS.  Yes, I said BiFocals.  That sounds like something for old people and I refuse to think of myself as old. Plus, does anyone have  a coupon for that?
